A large percentage of American horses slaughtered each year are Thoroughbred's-- The slaughter houses in the US are closed but horses have ALWAYS gone to Mexico and Canada to be slaughtered. There are more American horses being slaughtered now than when the plants were open in the US. Aside from the horrors of the slaughter process, designed for cattle and not the long neck of horses, the transportation to the slaughterhouses is largely unregulated, with long hauls of mares, foals and stallions mixed together, without food or water. Keep in mind that according to USDA inspecitions over 90% of the horses slaughtered were young, sound and healthy! Not lame, old or sick. 'The Identity Fund'
Donations received
towards this fund assists in obtaining race records for those
thoroughbreds at risk and saved. This is a very important
aspect of networking thoroughbreds as often times it can provide
assistance to locate former breeders and owners of at risk horses.
If you'd like to donate towards this worthy effort- contributions
via or email us at TB@ac4h.com
