Many times I get asked why we list higher priced broker horses (above slaughter price). The reason .... I watch higher priced horses do the broker/auction shuffle and also get sick and deflate physically or get hurt, like a kick, and go on the truck. They all deserve "another chance" at a home not just the ones destined for the last truck ride -NOW.
How did Caanan get to the brokers lot? He was reportedly through the auction circuit for many years... almost a decade! He had been reportedly previously purchased by the broker and named "Krie" was sold as a trail horse. At an auction they noticed this loud colored paint standing in a kill pen and told me they recognized him as "Krie", they knew he was a "good horse" and bought him out of the kill pen for resale. Very lucky horse! Who knows how many time his color and personality saved him from "going on the truck". I noticed him immediately at the lot with that bold color and he literally begged for help... you can see how he ran right to me on this more than one time as I was trying my best to get video of a hackney pony who was being evasive! The hackney pony did find a home. Watch here.. .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PfX75GMMBE.
The below story isn't the first and it isn't unique... Over the many years we have been helping horses, we have reunited MANY horses with owners/rescues who have been looking for a horse that was circulating out there for whatever reason.
Angela explained to me that she has been looking for Canaan for over 10 years. She purchased him from a breeder at the age of 6 and still a stallion - unbroke! Through love and a lot of time they overcame the odds became one as rider and mount and showed all over the place with success! After his show days she had a friend who wanted a trail horse... her beloved mount went to someone she "trusted" on a "verbal contract". Her calls and attempts to find out how he was doing was thwarted with a quick... he is doing fine! She lost him and didn't know where he went. With the verbal contract violated and no where to go legally she turned to the internet listing him in multiple places asking for help finding her beloved horse Canaan.... she thought he must be dead... it's been so long. That is when her friend contacted her and said Angela Canaan is on the broker lot look at www.ac4h.com and the broker owned page!!! She contacted me immediately sending in a picture which matched his very unique color pattern... there could be no mistake, this was him her beloved Canaan who she had been searching for. She quickly made arrangements to bring him home - personally.
It was a great pleasure meeting you in person and working with her. Thank you Angela for watching for him over the years and against the odds. God Bless you for "taking him home".
