Garrett's Memorial

Garrett was born on May 20, 2006 in Mankato, MN to Randy Soltau and Tina Nelson.  Garrett bravely fought his illness with patience and love.  He enjoyed making ferret faces, being read to, singing, learning sign language, horse back riding with his mom, 4 wheeling with his dad, spending time with his horses, dogs and cat.  Although Garrett’s life was short, he leaves a lifetime of memories for all those whose hearts he touched with his crazy, fuzzy hair and his contagious smile.

Garrett's family has asked that in his precious memory the horses that he so loved be assisted.

Family Honors Son's Memory
Published Date: 07-13-2007 11:07 PM CT
An area couple is honoring the memory of their young son. Garrett
Soltau was born with an esophageal fistula: his trachea was hooked to
his esophagus. Garrett also suffered from a "floppy airway", meaning,
at any time, his airway could collapse. Doctors performed surgery to
fix the problem, which went perfectly. But when Garrett was coming
out of anesthesia, he crashed. Tina Nelson, Garrett's mother
says, "We're pacing and praying and hoping everything will come out
all right. But it didn't." Garrett died at one year, one month, one
week and one day old. Now, his parents are donating all the money
they receive to 'Another Chance for Horses'. The organization will
rehabilitate a horse and donate it to a disabled child... all in
Garrett's name. Nelson says, "That there's going to be another child
who will know the joy and therapy of spending time with horses,
really appreciate that." If you'd like to donate to Garrett's
Memorial, please head to our website. We'll link you to "Another
