Beauty - 16.1 hand Perch Mare apox 17 yrs old Deceased - Rest In Peace Beauty!!
Thank you to all who helped Beauty by assisting with her vet bills and keeping her in your prayers- we appreciate you!
Karen Hill, Joanne Woodward, 0-10-04 She was very clean and shiny at the sale - apparently bathed at left to dry in this cold weather! She appeared as though she had possible heaves but after 3 days started to have blood in the discharge from her nose- vet confirmed our fears- pneumonia - possibly pulmonary which means that there could be fluid around her lungs which stops the lungs from expanding- after $500.00 in vet bills she is not any better today- fever, discharge from nose and difficulty breathing. We will re-assess with the vet her condition and treatment on Thursday 1-22-04 - keep you fingers crossed for this big, beautiful lady!We changed medications with Beauty to more aggressively treat her illness- with penicillin and naxell after initial culture showed she could have Strep C and several other things! She is still running fever - We will have Dr. Victoria write up exactly what was going on to post. vet bills now totally over $800.00.After 2nd shot of penicillin shot on 1-27-04 it was obvious that Beauty had a reaction and cannot have it. today Dr. Victoria came out today 01-27-04 by this time Beauty has developed some infection in her right eye and may go blind in that eye. Original culture tested negative for strangles. She does have fluid buildup on her right lung however she does sound better just barely! We did another cbc and nose culture and inserted a catheter in the vein for medicine as her neck is getting sore. Catheters require flushing every 6 - 8 hours. We are feeding Beauty a mash by hand as she isn't eating on her own. Concerns are founder, blindness and death. Dr. Victoria will be contacting New Bolton and an eye specialist to see what we have to do. Vet bills now over $1,000.00. 01-29-04 - the blood cultures we took shows that Beauty's kidneys are starting to fail- she was unable to get up on her own this morning and we had to help her. We started immune booster and Immune 26 a product for people and animals. We are flushing her cath every 6 hours and feeding her warm mash - the only good thing that has happened is she has started to have an increase in her eating! She had a temp of 101 even with Banamine. We ordered a large sling which will be here tomorrow - we will need to flush kidneys through IV possibly and everything now will be day by day- on hope and a lot of prayers!!01-31-04 Beauty had a reaction to the antibiodics and passed away at 7:45 - Rest In Peace Beauty~~ we will miss you.
This just goes to show there are dangers other than the obvious meat buyers at auctions- there are silent killers as well.
Thank you to Karen Hill and JoAnn Woodward for your donations to help Beauty!!
