Success Stories

Every single time we assist a horse in finding a home we consider it a "success story".  Here are a few examples of those we have helped.

This is the saddlebred mare purchased in Sept '05 off the broker-owned
page.  First is the photo I bought her from.
Then, a few photos of this summer - ready to show and absolutely beautiful!
She's an awesome horse with an awesome story.  Thanks for helping us
save her.   Lillian

Those photos are Pete surviving the kids learning double bareback skills at summer camp! The kids practiced switching places on Pete (without touching the ground) It was quite funny and he got plenty of grooming as his reward for having so much patience! Pete has turned into quite the butterball and loves his feed, he also has a best friend "Gordy" who is an 18 month old Belgium that is boarded here. The two make quite a pair!-Pat

HVK Radiant Flaire #122465 Morgan...  From Champion to Kill Pen

http://www.kohlerstables.com/htm/Sale_PDF/HVKRadiantFlaire.pdf#search='hvk%20radiant%20flaire'

Sire:  Noble Flaire Dam: HVK Radiant.  He won the very first Breeder's sweetpstakes as a weanling colt and followed up by being named World Futurity Yearling Colt Champion.  He comes from a distinguished family that includes his sire Noble Flaire, Grand National Champion HVK Man About town and three time World Champion HVK Vibrance.  His dam, HVK Radiant, is by the late great Wham Bam Command. He was at the prestigious Tatersalls Sales Arena in Lexington, KY.  Somehow retaining his papers passing from hand to hand HVK Radiant Flaire wound up a few miles from New Holland auction at an Amish driving sale and was purchased by a kill buyer to be slaughtered for human consumption at Cavel.  While in the kill pen his gorgeous long flowing tail was chopped off to be sold the individual who chopped the tail off stating "it doesn't matter he is going to kill anyway!"  Narrowly escaping death, he was purchased by a broker who makes a living buying and selling through auctions.  The broker thought that he had potential and could find a home rather than be slaughtered.  We take pictures of broker owned horses and post them hoping that they can find a home rather than winding up in the slaughter pens or in the continuous cycle of being sold over and over again through the auction ring with each person hoping to make a few bucks more.

We are contacting the breeder's of the Radiant Flaire to let them know what happened to this magnificent horse.

            Kentucky's Story....

I went to take pictures of horses who are broker owned in danger of going to auction,  New Holland or other auctions with kill buyers present in hopes of helping them to find homes.  Colleen Segarra of Equine Rescue Resource Inc. was asked by someone in her area to take a look at the pictures on the website and was horrified!  The first horse listed was a horse she recognized as one she had helped before, his name was Kentucky.  He was purchased out of a kill pen by a private person Colleen assisted and the person took him to her farm.  Tragedy struck the family and Kentucky found a new home with someone the owner trusted - no written agreement was made to protect him because the trusted this person.  Shortly thereafter Kentucky was sent to another home and then to auction we tracked him through some of his ordeal we found that he was sold last month at a local auction for $900 to a broker who sold him to a private person for $1,200 he came up lame and was traded back to the broker then we loose track of him- eventually almost a month later he shows up at Unadilla auction in NY and was purchased by a kill buyer as he was standing in a kill pen he was recognized by a broker and purchased narrowly escaping slaughter.  That brings us back to Colleen seeing him on the website, us making arrangements to have him brought to the AC4H farm to be picked up, and Colleen, friends and volunteers traveling over 4 hours to take Kentucky home where he will be placed into their sanctuary program.  Thank you everyone who helped Kentucky and thank you to Colleen who is ensuring that Kentucky will never again have to worry about winding up on a dinner plate overseas.  A Happy ending for all...

Christmas aka Chris - 9/10 yr old Belgian Gelding aprox 18 hands he is a gentle giant.  He was purchased through auction the note with him stated that he was an Amish logging horse - his owner was killed logging when a large branch fell on him - they liquidated the business including the horses and this poor boy still has his logging shoes on!  There is a chain around his neck that Andy and I tried to remove but couldn't get loose - no clue why it is there.  I would love to pull those shoes off and get that chain off his neck -

10) Saddlebred Mare 16 hand 12 yr old purchased  directly out of kill pen at New Holland 4 white socks - trying to find out her history.  She was ridden and driven she is an up on the bit horse has energy didn't spook and did well.  She needs weight but is a very pretty girl!

9)  Black and White Saddlebred Gelding 7 yr old aprox 15.2 hand was severely abused by prior amish owner who reported that you should keep a whip handy to keep him moving along and that he had his lashing that morning before going to auction.  This boy needs a home where he can be a horse for a while then be worked with.  He was hitched but not driven as he was nervous.  He stood nicely while I was there to take pictures was nervous when I was behind him but had respect for people on the ground he is just really afraid he is going to get hit again.  He is handleable but should go to someone who knows and understands horses who were abused. $725.00  Trot.org & Karyl raised the funds to save this deserving gentleman (Thank you for your efforts!!) he has a ride on Sunday and a home to go to after being "trashed" every day of his life for the last 4 years.
